Raiders and NFL Celebrate USA Football Month

USA Football’s Heads Up Football program promotes a better, safer game for children in all 50 states...

The Oakland Raiders join the NFL in continuing to recognize USA Football Month throughout the NFL preseason.

As part of USA FOOTBALL MONTH, the NFL and Raiders will recognize Heads Up Football, a nationwide program launched by USA Football in April with a $1.5 million grant from the NFL Foundation.

This year’s USA Football Month campaign continues as it reaches fans during nationally televised preseason games starting August 22, through in-stadium banners and field stencils, online at raiders.com and features the following locally involvement by the Raiders:

  • During pregame at this Friday’s Raiders versus Chicago Bears game at O.co Coliseum, USA Football/Heads Up Football participants The Hayward Earthquakes will line up on the sidelines with the Raider players during the National Anthem.

  • At halftime of Friday’s game USA Football/Heads Up Football participants the Bay Area Gorillas and the Junior Delta Kings will conduct a scrimmage on the O.co Coliseum field.

  • Over 50 youth football teams who participate in the USA Football/Heads Up Football program will attend Friday’s game.

  • On Saturday, the Oakland Raiders hosted a Heads Up Football Player Safety Coach Training at the Silver and Black’s permanent facility in Alameda. USA Football Master Trainer and West Region Manager Bassel Faltas and former All-Pro linebacker, former Cal star and Heads Up Football Ambassador Hardy Nickerson instructed more than 35 Player Safety Coaches from leagues throughout the Bay Area on the founding principles of Heads Up Football, including proper tackling techniques, concussion awareness and proper equipment fitting.

“The health and safety of every youth football player is our No. 1 priority and the NFL shares in that commitment,” USA Football Executive Director SCOTT HALLENBECK said. “The Oakland Raiders and the NFL have partnered with us to further advance a better and safer game for young athletes who enjoy the fun, fitness and other rewards gained by playing this great sport. We value the Raiders’ continued support of USA Football Month.”

About USA Football: USA Football leads the game’s development, inspires participation and ensures a better and safer experience for all youth, high school and other amateur players.
