The Oakland Raiders mourn the passing today of Bob Mischak, who played for the Raiders from 1963-65 and was an assistant coach for the team from 1973-87 and again in 1994.

Mischak joined the Raiders in 1963 after one year with the NFL’s New York Giants and three years with the AFL’s New York Titans (Jets). He played tight end in 1963 before moving to guard from 1964-65. In all, he played in 35 games for the Raiders and caught two passes for 25 yards. Mischak appeared in 79 games over his career.

He joined the Raiders coaching staff in 1973 as the team’s tight ends coach. During Mischak’s tenure with the Raiders, the club made the playoffs 10 times, won six division titles, and appeared in six AFC Championship games. Mischak tutored three All-Pro tight ends as a Raider, including Hall of Famer Dave Casper. He was an assistant on all three of the Raiders’ Super Bowl-winning teams.

Mischak played collegiately at Army, earning All-American honors as an offensive lineman in 1953. Before his time as a coach with the Raiders, he returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach for seven seasons.
