Raiders Fall to Seahawks 22-6

The Oakland Raiders wrapped up the 2013 preseason with a 22-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field.

The Oakland Raiders wrapped up the 2013 preseason with a 22-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field.

The Raiders won the opening coin toss and deferred their choice to the second half. WR Jermaine Kearse fielded Justin Medlock’s opening kickoff 9 yards deep and took a knee for a touchback. The Seahawks started at their own 20 with Russell Wilson at quarterback. RB Robert Turbin capped a 6-play, 80-yard drive with a 3-yard TD run. The extra point was good and the Seahawks took a 7-0 lead with 11:58 left in the first quarter.

K Steven Haushka’s ensuing kickoff flew out of the back of the end zone for a touchback and the Raiders started at their own 20 with Terrell Pryor at quarterback. The Seahawks held the Raiders to a three-and-out and P Chris Kluwe came on to punt. CB Walter Thurmond returned Kluwe’s 44-yard punt 29 yards to the Oakland 42. Tarvaris Jackson entered the game at quarterback for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks drive ended when Jackson was called for intentional grounding and Haushka came on for a 56-yard field goal attempt. The kick was good and the Seahawks took a 10-0 lead with 7:06 to go in the first quarter.

WR Jacoby Ford returned the ensuing kickoff 25 yards to the Oakland 21. The Raiders drive stalled at the Seattle 32 and Medlock came on for a 45-yard field goal attempt. The kick was good and it cut the Seahawks lead to 10-3 with 3:05 left in the 1st quarter.

Medlock’s kick was fielded in the end zone for a touchback and Seattle started at the 20. The Seahawks drove to the Raiders 3-yard line and Haushka’s 22-yard field goal gave them a 13-3 lead with 10:14 left in the 2nd quarter.

Ford returned the ensuing kickoff 30 yards to the Oakland 25. Pryor went deep for Ford and the pass was picked off by Thurmond at the Seattle 30. The Seahawks drive stalled when DT Christo Bilukidi sacked Jackson on 3rd and 10. Haushka’s 51-yard field goal put the Seahawks up 16-3 with 3:39 left in the 2nd quarter.

The ensuing kickoff bounced through the end zone for a touchback. The Raiders drive stalled at the 19. Medlock came on and drilled a 37-yard field goal to cut the Seahawks lead to 16-6 with 28 seconds left in the 2nd quarter.

CB Taiwan Jones fielded the opening kickoff of the 3rd quarter on the end line and the Raiders started at the 20 with rookie Matt McGloin at quarterback. The Seahawks forced a three-and-out and WR Bryan Walters returned the P Marquette King’s 52-yard punt to the Seattle 31. Brady Quinn entered the game at quarterback for Seattle.

The Raiders forced a punt after Seattle crossed midfield. P Jon Ryan’s punt was downed at the Raiders 6. The Raiders moved out to the 29 before the Seahawks forced a punt. Walters returned Kluwe’s punt, fumbled the ball and the Seahawks recovered. A block in the back penalty moved the Seahawks back to the 13. Quinn led a scoring drive as Haushka’s 43-yard FG gave the Seahawks a 19-6 lead with 1:10 left in the 3rd quarter.

The ensuing kickoff went for a touchback and the Raiders started at the 20. A few plays later McGloin was sacked and fumbled and the Seahawks recovered in Raiders territory at the 32. The Raiders held firm and Haushka came on for a 53-yard field goal. The kick was good and the Seahawks led 22-6 with 13:52 to play.

WR Greg Jenkins fielded the kickoff in the end zone for a touchback and the Raiders started at the 20 with rookie Tyler Wilson at quarterback. The Raiders drove into Seahawks territory but failed to convert on 4th down and the Seahawks took over on downs at the 31.

The Seahawks moved the ball but failed to convert on 4th and long and the Raiders took over on downs at their own 25. The Raiders were unable to mount a scoring drive and turned it over on downs at the Oakland 48.

Quinn kneeled down three times to run out the clock and secure the victory. The Raiders finish the preseason at 1-3 and will travel to Indianapolis to face the Colts in the 2013 Regular Season opener Sunday, September 8.
