NFL Play 60 Game

Posted Nov 26, 2012

On December 2 when the Oakland Raiders host the Cleveland Browns, children from the City of Oakland Parks and Recreation will serve as ambassadors in support of NFL PLAY 60.

On December 2 when the Oakland Raiders host the Cleveland Browns, children from the City of Oakland Parks and Recreation will serve as ambassadors in support of NFL PLAY 60, a league-wide effort to fight childhood obesity by getting kids active for at least 60 minutes a day.

The youngsters from Oakland Parks and Rec will participate in a pre-game field presentation and the Raiders will host the regional championship round of the Punt, Pass & Kick competition during halftime festivities at O.co Coliseum.

In addition, the City of Oakland Parks and Recreation will receive a $35,000 Youth Fitness Zone Grant to improve the playground at Brookdale Park, which used by more than 5,000 children from the surrounding area.

As part of the refurbishment, the Brookdale Park NFL Play 60 Playground will incorporate NFL Play 60 Oakland Raiders logos into the rubberized surface and or on the surrounding benches where hundreds of park visitors, athletes, teams and volunteers use the park daily for games, programming and leisure.

The Brookdale NFL Play 60 Oakland Raiders logo will be a constant reminder to ensure our youth get out and play at least 60 minutes per day. The Youth Fitness Zone Grant, awarded by the Oakland Raiders and NFL Charities, is part of the NFL’s commitment to health and fitness.

In support of NFL PLAY 60, all Thanksgiving weekend games raised awareness of the childhood obesity epidemic and showcase the NFL and its clubs’ commitment to help reverse this trend. Continuing in the coming weeks, teams designate a home game as an ‘NFL PLAY 60’ game, with the Raiders theming Sunday's contest versus Cleveland. In association with the ‘NFL PLAY 60’ game, the Raiders have teamed up with the City of Oakland Parks and Recreation.

For the second consecutive year, communities across the country can enter for a chance to receive a visit from the NFL PLAY 60 Bus featured in the PLAY 60 commercials. Schools and community centers can enter the NFL PLAY 60 Bus contest by writing two short essays and submitting a photo on how the PLAY 60 Bus could help the youth in their town get more active and healthy.

One deserving community will receive a visit from the PLAY 60 Bus full of sports equipment and gear. Fans can visit www.NFLRUSH.com to learn more.
